An absolutely incredible event at Dundee & Angus College for all pupils studying Travel & Tourism in Dundee.
The day kicked of with talks illustrating the huge range of careers and opportunities available in the Travel & Tourism, both internationally and locally due to the huge changes happening at Dundee’s Waterfront.
We heard from Louise & Stewart from Dundee’s fastest growing tourist attraction, Dark Dundee. They shared their story, highlighting the fun of working in tourism and the opportunities that are now available on our doorstep.
Connor Scanlon from British Airways spoke about working as cabin crew and some of the incredible people he has met and places he has been because of his job.
Gaynor Sullivan from Dundee City Council showed us images of how far Dundee’s Waterfront Development has come and what brilliant things are still to come. She also spoke about Dundee’s determination to become a tourist destination, and use of World Host training.
Alistair Smith from STA Travel described to us some of the perks that come from working as a travel agent. He also highlighted that STA regularly take on #modernapprentices. Once trained by STA apprentices can work in a number of departments and roles, or take their experience and work almost anywhere they chose.
The talks were rounded off by Allan McIntyre from V&A Dundee. Who talked to us about the amazing exhibitions, activities and events that will be happening in and around the V&A. All of which will bring tourists to the area.
The students experienced taster sessions, lead by D&A College lecturers. Highlighting some of the key skills needed to succeed in the Travel & Tourism Industry; such as #CustomerService#Sales#ProductKnowledge and more as well as a hint of some of the careers available and the course content at college.
The students enjoyed the day, gained some context for their studies and found out about just some of the incredible opportunities available to them if they continue in the Travel & Tourism Industry.
