What attracted you to the industry you are in?

I was inspired by my grandparents who were in the nursing profession and I was attracted to the idea of caring and helping people.

36 years.


Describe your day-to-day role

  • Supporting and caring for patients.
  • Administering medications.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting and guiding students and new colleagues.
  • Completing documentation.
  • Managing staff and the day to day process of a ward.

What skills have you learned?

How to work within a multidisciplinary team, how to care for individuals holistically, how to apply evidence-based care, managing a ward.


Have you completed any professional qualifications?

Nursing diploma and degree.


Do you like living and working in Dundee and Angus?

I have lived in Dundee most of my life and like that I am involved in helping and caring for the local community.


What skills are the most important for you to do your job well?

Having the knowledge and access to up to date skills to provide effective patient care.


Was there anything about the job that surprised you?

The amount of responsibility involved.


Is there anything unusual about your role?

Not that I feel.


Do you get a lot of support from your company?

I feel the NHS provides support and many learning opportunities to enhance my professional development.


What’s your favourite part of the job?

Hearing that patients and relatives are happy with your care.  When students appreciate your ability to help them through their learning.


Did you always want to pursue a career in this industry?

I admired my grandparents’ profession as nurses but had not planned on going into nursing originally, but when I had the opportunity to join the profession, I was very glad I took the chance as I enjoy my career.


What is your advice for young school leavers looking to start an apprenticeship?

Gather as much knowledge on what you want to learn and achieve before going into a job.


What is your career goal?

I am happy at the level I have reached in my career.


How does it feel to be a KeyWorker on the frontline, supporting the Country’s fight against Covid-19

I am grateful to be considered a keyworker, however I do not think of myself in this way as I am doing what I like in doing my job.
