Land-based Pre-apprenticeship – Winter intake (6 months full-time employment)

 

The land-based pre-apprenticeship is an ideal pathway for young people 16-21 years into the wider rural sector, particularly for those who do not come from an agricultural background.

The programme is accredited by the Scottish Rural College, with funding administered by Skills Development Scotland and following twelve successful years of running the programme, we are delighted to be offering a winter intake for the land-based pre-apprenticeship.

 

10 places are available for our winter intake which will commence with the upfront induction w/c 20th January at the SRUC Craibstone Campus, Aberdeen. All candidates need to be a minimum of 16 years old due to employment legislation.

Employment placements will then follow for a period of 26 weeks working full-time from February onwards.

Apprenticeship rates of pay from 1st April 2024 are £7.20 per hour standard rate, typically 40hrs per week for 26 weeks, with £1500 training delivered throughout the programme including certificated training tickets. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times standard rate of pay.

The upfront residential induction will be held at SRUC Aberdeen, and will offer a range of activities and training as follows:

  • Preparation for Employment award (SCQF Level 4)
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Health & Safety Awareness
  • Manual Handling Awareness
  • Tractor driving (3 days)
  • Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklift (3 days)
  • Crop Production/Livestock production
