Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2019 is now just days away. After exploring Foundation Apprenticeships, Modern Apprenticeships and Graduate Apprenticeships over the last few weeks in the run up to this week long event, it is now time to hear from two modern apprentices within the Developing the Young Workforce and Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce teams.

Meet Lottie

Lottie is the Business and Administration MA for the Developing the Young Workforce Dundee & Angus team. She has now been in post for 18 months and in year 2 of her MA journey. Lottie’s MA is work based so is in the office full time and has an assessor who comes into the workplace to support and grade her.

Lottie attended a meeting within Dundee and Angus College where two apprenticeship opportunities were discussed. After looking at both options in detail, Lottie choose the Business and Administration MA. Lottie was then asked to interview for the position within the DYW D&A team and was successful.

When asked why she was interested in her chosen apprenticeship,

“I was very interested in working with DYW as it was something I had not heard of being done before. I was also interested in getting an administration qualification as I was home schooled and didn’t have many qualifications or experience. I will be able to use the skills I learned throughout my whole career.”

Prior to Lottie starting her MA she didn’t have much knowledge of apprenticeships but thanks to her role within the DYW D&A team she now has a greater knowledge. Once qualified, Lottie would like to go on to work in administration, become a receptionist or work in the events industry.

When asked where she would see herself in 5 years,

“I would like to have and be gaining more skills and knowledge to grow my career.”

Meet Dom

Dom is the Digital Marketing MA for the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce. He has been in post now for 8 months. Dom’s MA is part work based and part college based where he attends the equivalent to one full day at Dundee and Angus College. He also has an assessor for support.

Dom originally applied for three different MA positions which he found on apprenticeship.scot. After a successful application and interview within the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, he joined the team to become their Digital Marketing Apprentice.

Dom was attracted to the digital marketing position within DACC because of the focus on online marketing and he was interested to find out more about what DACC offer. Also with the job being based in Dundee and it being a city in Scotland which he likes to visit.

Prior to his position as the Digital Marketing MA, he didn’t have much knowledge of the apprenticeship family but after working within DACC and working closely with the DYW D&A team he has become more aware.

Once qualified, Dom would like to move to a corporation company to promote their products via social media and across other online platforms. Dom is still unsure what path he would like to take so doesn’t have a dream job in mind.

When asked where he sees himself in 5 years Dom replied,

“I want to still be trying new things, learning more and to be widening my experiences.”
