The Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) took place in Glasgow on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st September this year.

The SLF is an opportunity for those who work in and with education to come together and share best practice, new ideas and exciting opportunities. This year there were representatives from all over the world in attendance to take Scottish ideas and lessons home.

Some of the DYW Dundee & Angus team attended on the Wednesday and came back to the office brimming with new ideas and opportunities for our local young people.

Cabinet Secretary for Education John Swinney kicked off the day. He said if Getting it Right for Every Child, Curriculum for Excellence and Developing Young Workforce initiatives work together, then children and young people in Scotland will have the best possible start in life and they, and consequently Scotland, will be able to achieve anything. This will happen if individuals and organisations, at every level and in all sectors, work together and collaborate.

Claire, Melissa, Rachel and Ross then spent the day attending seminars and exploring the 226 stands and exhibitors. Each came back with new resources and ideas to help support teachers, young people and parents. The team attended twelve different seminars over the course of the day, covering topics as diverse as hospitality, creativity, STEM, alternative awards and of course, DYW. These seminars have given us lots of ideas for new projects and opportunities to undertake in Dundee & Angus as well as ways to develop and improve our team and the service we provide.

Keep an eye out for what we do next!
