Hey, I’m Ava, and I’ve just finished an amazing week of work experience with DYW Tay Cities. Let me take you through my week!

Monday:
I started things off by meeting the team and getting a rundown on how everything works and what I’d be doing during my time here. After lunch, I joined a meeting with an MSP and a few people who had done apprenticeships – super interesting! In the afternoon, I worked with Natalie on creating spreadsheets. I had no idea how important they were in business! I also helped out by typing up some Rubi reports. Natalie said I was amazing, which definitely gave me a confidence boost!
Tuesday:
Tuesday was all about the Apprenticeships Job Fair! I had the chance to meet loads of employers like Barnados, Snipef, GSK, and the Army. I made sure to ask them questions like, “Who are you? What do you do? What opportunities do you offer?” It was one of the best days of the week for sure!

Wednesday:
Wednesday was definitely my favourite day. I went to The Apex for a breakfast meeting with Vicky, Lesley, and Natalie. The breakfast was delicious – croissants, omelette rolls, and bacon rolls! After that, we had a meeting about ‘Oor Village,’ a project put together by Dundee’s Bairns, Kanzen for Life, Change Centre Dundee, and Robertson’s. In the afternoon, I went to Baldragon with Kacey to learn about what an SC does.
Thursday:
Thursday was another busy day. I went with Natalie to deliver Timber Engineering competition kits to Craigie, Braview, and Harris. After lunch, I worked with Sharlene on social media, writing blog posts and updating the DYW website.
My week will finish up with a trip to the Apprenticeship Job Fair in Arbroath and a wrap-up meeting with Lesley and Vicky. It’s been an exciting week, and I’ve learned so much!

At the start of the week, I was really looking forward to working with DYW. The business breakfast meeting especially sounded exciting, and I was excited to meet employers from all over Dundee. One thing I was a bit nervous about was going to Baldragon, just because I was worried about seeing kids from a different school. But honestly, everything went great!
Overall, this week has been a fantastic experience, and I’ve really gained a better understanding of what a working day is like. I’ve enjoyed every bit of it and am already looking forward to what’s next!
