Montrose Academy buzzed with entrepreneurial energy as we welcomed Matt Stewart from Entrepreneur Me to run his fantastic Step Up to Enterprise programme. The event gave 100 eager S1 pupils the chance to become entrepreneurs for the day, developing teamwork, problem-solving, and business skills in a fast-paced, hands-on challenge.

Supporting them were 12 dedicated S3 helpers who stepped into key business roles, taking on the responsibilities of buyers, bankers, suppliers, and even tax collectors! Their involvement added an extra layer of realism to the experience, helping the younger pupils understand the complexities of running a business.

We were also lucky to have industry professionals on hand to share their expertise and guide the students through the process. A massive thank you to Lisa Laidlaw from Angus Training Group, Caryn Gibson from Timber Engineering, and Ryan Smith & Ben Strachan from SSE for taking the time to support the next generation of entrepreneurs. Their insights into business, finance, and industry added real value to the day.

At DYW Tay Cities, we’re passionate about providing young people with meaningful experiences that build confidence and skills for the future. The Step Up to Enterprise programme is a brilliant way to introduce pupils to the world of business, encouraging creativity, resilience, and teamwork.
