Young Peoples Careers Event with NHS Tayside
Hundreds of Dundee and Angus senior year pupils attended a careers event on the 16th of November at Ninewells Hospital.
The event held at the Ian Low Centre within Ninewells Hospital had 32 stands with representatives from a wide range of disciplines and professions who were on hand to help pupils gain an insight into the variety of roles available in healthcare.
The event was arranged in partnership between NHS Tayside and Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Tay Cities.
As well as the more traditional health service jobs in nursing, medical and allied health professions, there were representatives from the essential support departments, including portering, domestic and linen services.
Elaine Watson, NHS Tayside Director of Workforce said, “We wanted to use this opportunity to let young people explore the huge variety of careers that are on offer in the NHS.
“To keep NHS Tayside running successfully we need people with skills in many different areas, not just clinical staff such as doctors and nurses. We also need plumbers, porters, domestic staff, admin staff and people with IT skills amongst many others.
“The event showed school children who are considering their future careers that these very different ways of accessing health careers exist and that they are within their reach.”

“This experience on offer today shows that there is something for everyone in healthcare, regardless of entry level or which subjects you focus on at school. Holding interactive events such as this is a vital part of DYW work and inspires young people as to the career choices available to them.”
