VET SCHOOL

We are writing to invite you to the new Scottish vet school at SRUC Craibstone, Aberdeen on Tuesday 20th August 9.30-12.30pm to learn more about the Veterinary Profession.

· Do you think students need 5 straight A to apply to vet school? That’s not the case.

· Do you think students need all three science at Higher to apply to vet school? That’s not the case

· Did you know there is a new HND access route into vet school?

This is a unique experience to learn more about the veterinary profession and see first hand what your pupils would be doing at vet school. We are working with Glasgow/Edinburgh and SRUC Aberdeen vet schools to encourage more Scottish school pupils to consider the veterinary profession and you as careers and guidance staff have a key part to play in that. We want to help provide you with all the information and insight you need to help your pupils gather what they need to apply to vet school.

By increasing the diversity of Scottish school children considering veterinary practice as a future career choice, we aim to improve representation in those applying to vet schools from less represented groups and increase the resilience of the workforce in the Scottish veterinary profession. By supporting the dreams of primary and secondary school children in Scotland to become vets we help protect agricultural food security and companion animal welfare in Scotland.

On the 20th August we will

1. Give you access to the admissions teams from all three Scottish vets schools so you can ask questions,

2. A talk about the veterinary profession and the wide diversity of job opportunities available with a veterinary degree.

3. A tour of the facilities at the new SRUC vet school

4. Lunch and an opportunity to network
