The In2STEM programme

The In2STEM programme is free for current Year 12, S5 (or equivalent) students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The programme consists of an in-person work experience placement in a professional STEM setting, live online workshops, competitions and induction and celebration events. By taking part in the programme, students gain hands-on experience working with leading scientists, researchers and STEM professionals, and expand their personal and professional skill set.

In 2024, we supported over 850 students across the UK with in-person work experience placements. Students that take part in our programme feel more confident in pursuing their STEM aspirations and feel they have gained the skills to write successful applications by the end of the programme, including applying for PhDs.

Share this opportunity with your students

Student applications are open for 2025, and we kindly ask you to encourage your students to apply here. Please refer to the eligibility criteria on our website for more information about who can apply and our FAQs can help answer questions you and your students may have about In2STEM.

The application deadline is Sunday 2nd February 2025.

We have some exciting placements available in Scotland so far including:

  • Biosciences at National Museums Scotland
  • Biosciences at University of Edinburgh

We would highly encourage students interested in the above subjects to apply. We will likely have more placements available by the end of the application date so students interested in any STEM subjects can also apply.

To help you spread the word about the programme with your students and fellow teachers, we have attached our Schools Resource Pack. Alternatively, we would be happy to arrange a virtual presentation for your school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Thank you very much for helping us reach more young people. We hope to see your students on the programme this summer!
