Scotland’s greatest asset is its people. Scottish Apprenticeships and work-based learning create opportunities for everyone, no matter the size or sector. Co-ordinated by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), this year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week took place from the 2nd-6th March and the theme was ‘Talent Without Limits’.
DYW Dundee and Angus in partnerships with SDS Angus, Dundee & Angus College, University of Dundee and Angus Council organised the It’s Their Future event which was held at St Andrews Church Hall, Arbroath on Tuesday 3rd March from 4pm – 7pm.
This event was an opportunity for parents, carers/guardians, young people and teaching staff to find out more about the career pathways that are available to young people.
We ran two workshops throughout the evening –
- What I wished I had Known – facilitated by Jill Hunter, Area Manager for Angus and Perth from SDS and Jill Wilson, Skills Adviser from Angus Council. They were also joined by a fantastic panel of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices who shared their own experiences of their apprenticeships and what they wished they had known!
- Future Labour Market – facilitated by Jolene Keddie, SDS Careers Advisor and Russell Brown, Team Leader Developing the Young Workforce for Angus Council.
Parents, carers and young people also had the opportunity to chat to local employers/organisations and ask them any questions about future career pathways and apprenticeships.
We had a great representation of local employers who had volunteered their time to attend this event and as always we are very grateful for their ongoing support!
