Angus Travel & Tourism Conference

The first Angus Travel & Tourism Conference (Monday 23rd October) was a great success. Organised by Developing the Young Workforce Dundee & Angus, supported by Business Angus and held at Carnoustie Golf Hotel. Almost 100 pupils from five Angus secondary schools (Arbroath Academy, Arbroath High, Forfar Academy, Monifieth High and Websters) attended along with representatives from 19 local and national tourism businesses and organisations.Read more

Social Media Marketing Project

Rachel was blown away this m orning by the work of St Johns Nat 5 Administration students and Greenhillock Glamping staff. A brilliant example of Developing the Young Workforce activity; students Aimee Adams, Casey Sloane and Anna McMahon delivered training to Kate and Beth of Greenhillock so that they can use social media as an effective marketing tool. The students get the invaluable experiences of engaging with a real local business, of working to a brief, of researching, of presenting and of exploring social media as a marketing tool. Greenhillock Glamping gain CPD for their staff and a new marketing opportunity as well as getting to engage with and give back to their community.Read more

For Shaun Bisset, owner of Ferry Plumbing & Heating Ltd in Dundee, taking on an apprentice was something that he always wanted to do. However as a sole trader it can be challenging to find the right young person to bring into your company.

Instead of the traditional advert in the paper, or online advertising, Shaun decided to take a different approach to his recruitment of a young apprentice, which involved working closely with DYW Dundee and Angus and Dundee & Angus College.

The DYW team were asked by the Dundee schools skills & enterprise group to deliver a project that would support winter leavers, focusing on the skills and approaches needed to apply for and get a job. The Bank of Scotland partnered with the DYW team to deliver a two stage series of workshops to achieve this.Read more
