On Thursday 30 November the DYW team attended Webster’s High business breakfast, which brought together teachers, including the DYW and STEM contacts within the school and businesses within Angus. The aim of the event was to build partnership working and awareness of the benefits of education and employers collaborating, as well as showcase some of the amazing work already done.

Attendees heard from Lisa, Tosh, Deputy Head teacher, talk about some of the great work already underway, including the Webster’s Career bus, which takes pupils out into industry one afternoon a month, Team Spirit, a collaboration between DYW D&A and the University of Dundee’s Nursing and Midwifery Webster’s where S1 pupils took part in a two-day health themed teambuilding event and a STEM week where pupils undertook various activities to promote careers and learning in this area.

Two former pupils from Webster’s who now work for Forster Roofing also spoke about what led to them working at Forster’s and the opportunities they have had while working there, and illustrated clearly the huge benefits the company realises in concentrating on developing their young workforce. Finally, Angela, DYW D&A team manager, spoke about the overall importance of developing the young workforce for education, employers and young people, as well as the local national economy.

It was a great morning that clearly showed the benefits to all stakeholders of the DYW approach.
