Kickstart Scheme Now Live!

The Kickstart Scheme, a ground-breaking initiative to support 16-24 year olds into work has been launched by the Government today.

Any size and type of organisation that employs people can offer young people, claiming Universal Credit, a six-month work placement that will be paid for by government. The Kickstart Scheme will be delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions and will initially be open until December 2021, with the option of being extended.

Kickstart Scheme jobs must be new and of good quality. Government will pay 100% of the age-relevant National Minimum Wage, National Insurance and pension contributions for 25 hours a week.

Delivering the Youth Guarantee

Giving every young person the chance to succeed.


The Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Fiona Hyslop MSP, has announced further details on how the Youth Guarantee will give young people the chance to succeed despite the economic impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19).  Today’s announcement has confirmed additional investment for Developing the Young Workforce Regional Groups to support the delivery of the Youth Guarantee including strengthening our offer in the senior phase and ensuring those furthest from the labour market can access the appropriate support.

Superhero House Dundee Winners 2020!

We had over 40 fantastic entries (all contained in the following video), which made for a very hard judging process. We are very grateful for our judges Cllr Lynn Short (Dundee City Council), Kirsten Wallace (UNESCO City of Design Dundee), Mark Fleming (Dundee City Council Work Experience Coordinator) and our own Jonathan Reeve (Voigt Architects).

Superhero House Angus Winners 2020!

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Angus Superhero House Design 2020!

We had around 120 fantastic entries, which made for a very hard judging process.

Well done to all the winners (mentioned in the following video) who will each receive a goody bag packed with prizes (including a £20 Amazon Voucher). A huge thanks to everyone who took part and spent so much time preparing their ‘super’ entries!



A special Congratulations to the Overall Winner Holly Simmonds for her Amazing Spiderman Eco House made from Lego. The planning, storytelling, thought and detail put into the house design made this entry a worthy overall winner. We loved the environmental aspect and the working shower!

Holly’s winning design will be transformed into a 3D Model by Voigt Architects Limited and hope to publish this soon.


First Minister Announces National DYW Programme for School Leavers

In her lunchtime briefing earlier this week, the First Minister announced that Developing the Young Workforce has created a national programme for this year's school leavers in Scotland. The programme is a series of virtual and online experiences which aim to build work related knowledge and skills to enhance young people’s industry readiness and capacity to compete in the labour market.

Language and Business Events with Monifieth High School and St John's RC High School

DYW Dundee & Angus has worked closely with two schools to help deliver successful Language and Business events for S3 pupils. In October 161 pupils attended Monifieth High School’s event, and in January 98 pupils took part in the workshops at St John’s RC High School.

Its Their Future Career Event

Scotland's greatest asset is its people. Scottish Apprenticeships and work-based learning create opportunities for everyone, no matter the size or sector. Co-ordinated by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), this year's Scottish Apprenticeship Week took place from the 2nd-6th March and the theme was 'Talent Without Limits'.

Plant the Seed!

On Thursday 27th February Developing the Young Workforce organised a Rural Career Event called Plant the Seed! The aim of this event was to give secondary pupils from Dundee and Angus the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, meet employers and individuals who work within the sector and learn about the different career options.
